Soaring High: Omak Aviation Classes Take Flight with Hot Air Balloons!
The brand-new Aviation class, introduced for the 2024-25 school year, is already reaching new heights—literally! Students have been diving into the exciting world of engineering through hands-on projects, and their latest adventure was nothing short of amazing. Armed with glue, tissue paper, and a little duct tape, these future engineers set out to design and build their very own hot air balloons! In true engineering fashion, they meticulously inspected their creations over and over, testing for flaws and making improvements, just like the pros do in the Engineering Design process.
Although the weather had other plans and prevented an outdoor launch on the football field, the students didn’t let that stop them! They pivoted with Pioneer Grit, launching their hot air balloons right in the CTE building. It was a sight to behold as their hard work paid off—demonstrating the Pioneer Code of perseverance, energy, and focus. From start to finish, these students showed just how powerful creativity, dedication, and a little teamwork can be. We’re so proud of their efforts and can’t wait to see what this new Aviation class will engineer next!

NCW College & Career Expo: Empowering Future Leaders of the Workforce
On October 23, the NCW College & Career Expo brought together educators, students, and local industry professionals in an exciting and collaborative effort to prepare students for the demands of the 21st-century workforce. This event provided a unique opportunity for students to engage with real-world work experiences that both train and inspire them, aligning with the skill sets regional employers are seeking.
Students from grades 9 through 12, representing schools across Okanogan County, participated in a variety of hands-on, work-based activities designed to immerse them in the tools, technologies, and experiences of today’s workplace. The expo also featured interactive exhibits where students explored advanced workplace equipment, reviewed job descriptions, and gained valuable insights directly from professionals across various industries.
What truly added to the excitement was the overwhelming engagement from the industry vendors. Their interactive displays, along with the incredible swag they brought, kept students enthusiastic and eager to learn more about the career paths available to them.
The NCW College & Career Expo was not only a learning experience but also a celebration of the future workforce—equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and inspiration they need to succeed in tomorrow’s careers.

OMS Leadership Class Shines at Middle Levels Leadership Retreat!
This past weekend was an unforgettable adventure for Omak Middle School’s Leadership class! Mr. Duncan and Mrs. Hoover led the charge as our future leaders traveled to the Middle Levels Leadership Retreat at the beautiful Pinelow Convention Center, right by Loon Lake, WA. And let me tell you, it wasn’t just any weekend—it was packed with excitement, growth, and tons of fun!
The students dove into team-building activities that had them working together, solving problems, and showing what true leadership is all about. Whether they were tackling outdoor challenges or brainstorming new ideas, they were unstoppable! And the best part? They had the chance to connect with other schools, sharing creative ideas for fun and engaging activities they can’t wait to bring back to OMS.
From team challenges that tested their skills to leadership workshops that pushed them to think outside the box, the OMS students took it all in stride, making sure they left the retreat stronger, more confident, and ready to make a difference at school.
It was a weekend full of personal and group growth, and we couldn’t be prouder of our OMS leaders for representing our school with such enthusiasm. Keep an eye out—there’s definitely more excitement coming our way thanks to these future leaders!
