Native American Education Program
The goal of the Native American Education Program is to meet the unique needs of Native American students and assist them in achieving academic success. The program also seeks to increase awareness of Native American history, traditions, and culture district-wide.
Title VI
In order to be eligible for Title VI services, a student must be a descendant in the first or second degree of an enrolled tribal member. Parents will need to complete an ED 506 Indian Student Eligibility Certification Form. The ED 506 form only needs to be completed once and is kept on file for the duration of the student’s enrollment in the Omak School District.
Johnson O'Malley (JOM)
In order to be eligible for JOM services, a student must be enrolled with a federally recognized tribe or be 1/4 degree Native American with a Certificate of Indian Blood.
Title VI & JOM Indian Education Committee
The Indian Education Committee (IEC) is an integral part of the Native American Education Program. The parent committee works in partnership with the district on the development, operation, and evaluation of the programs designed to meet the unique educational needs of Native American students. The committee approves all programs and budgets funded by JOM. All parents and community members are welcome to attend the IEC meetings, which will be posted on the district's website and Facebook page.
Omak School District Land Acknowledgment
The Omak School District recognizes that we have the privilege of educating on the traditional territory of the Okanogan Peoples and current reservation territory of the 12 bands of the Colville Confederated Tribes. We also thank the people of the Colville Confederated Tribes, the original stewards of the land since time immemorial, for their knowledge systems as we teach, learn, and live on their traditional territories. We encourage everyone to develop a deeper understanding of the history, land, teachings, treaties, executive orders, and jurisdictions within the vicinity of the Colville Confederated Tribes’ Reservation. Together we can use our knowledge to make a better world for future generations.
